Braided composites from glass-polypropylene
Original language description
Flat braided fabrics using hybrid yarn composed of glass/ polypropylene filaments, and their thermoplastic composites have been investigated in the present work. The braided fabrics and composites are tested for tensile strength and bending rigidity. Results indicate the increase in tensile behavior of braided fabrics with increase in matrix fraction (polypropylene). In braided composite, the tensile stress increases with increase in matrix proportion while the tensile strain value decrease. Also the effect of matrix content and thickness of composite on the bending characteristics of composite has been studied. It is observed that the bending rigidity is found to be highly influenced by the matrix content and thickness of the composite.
