Original language description
The side emitting plastic optical fibers (POFs) with 2 mm and 3 mm diameters with good flexibility can be widely utilized in soft lighting textile fabrics. Naked POFs wrapped with florescent fabric were measured to investigate the enhancement of side illumination of POFs for the application in safety active visible textiles. The results show that the fluorescent fabric, thick fiber diameter and small bending radius can enhance the side illumination of POFs. When the bending radius is smaller than the technical bending limit, the enhancement of side illumination with above three factors is increased. There is no visible difference of illumination intensity of samples under bending radius greater than the technical bending limit.
