Nanotextiles as Biomass Carriers in Biological Wastewater Treatment
Original language description
This paper describes the use of nanotextiles as biofilm carriers for biological wastewater treatment. The aim of the study was to identify alternatives to current commercial carrier based on modern polymer nanofibers. Nanomaterials offer many advantages, including a large specific surface area and optimal surface morphology. Both laboratory and full-scale experiments were undertaken on wastewater of differing composition using a nanofiber biomass carrier developed at the Technical University of Liberec. Our results indicate a higher rate of primary incorporation using the nanofiber biomass carrier, and high stability and activity in the resulting biofilm.
