Investigation of the role of surface roughness on the thermal absorptivity of cotton woven fabrics
Original language description
The warm-cool feeling is an important thermo-physiological property of fabrics determining the comfort and thus it influences the buying decision of consumers of apparels and fabrics. Thermal absorptivity has been established as standard objectively measured parameter which has good correlation with warm-cool feeling. Although, it is sufficient to know the density, thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of a material to calculate the value of its thermal absorptivity, such mathematical expression does not give the impression that the warm-cool feeling also strongly depends on the surface texture of the material. In this paper, the role of real contact area between the sample surface and the measuring head of the instrument ALAMBETA on the measured value of thermal absorptivity has been studied. Using polypropylene sheets and strips, different area of contacts were artificially generated and the value of thermal absorptivity measured in ALAMBETA showed strong correlation with t
