Healing characteristics of PCL vascular grafts

  • Original language description

Vascular grafts made from biodegradable polycaprolactone (PCL) were produced by electrospinning. Four of the grafts having the inner diameter of 1.65 mm and average thickness of 685,5 ?m were implantedrnas a replacement of rat abdominal aorta for 6 months. Histological evaluation of the grafts was performed using hematoxylin eosin staining to assess overall graft healing characteristics. Nanofibrous vascular grafts showed patency without any signs of thrombosis after 6 months. The lumen was completely covered by endothelial cells. Moreover, the grafts developed signs of regular aortic layers resembling the typical arrangement of elastic arteries showing promising tissue remodeling of such scaffolds after implantation.
