    Application of Activated Carbon Web for Efficient Removal of Methylene Blue

    Different activated carbon webs were prepared by thermal treatment of acrylic fibrous waste. The difference among these webs is a difference in heating rate (150-450°C/hour) and dwell time (0 to 60 minutes) in final carbonization temperature (1200 °C). Among these webs the activated carbon web prepared at 300 °C/hour with no holding time at 1200 °C revealed highest specific surface area 280 square meter per gramm. The efficiency of this activated web on the removal of methylene blue was analyzed at different experimental factors like initial dye concentration, effect of different adsorbent dosage, effect of stirring speed and effect of solution pH. The results indicated that with increasing initial concentration of dye equilibrium also shifts towards higher side and increasing adsorbent dosage and stirring speed will cause increase in dye removal.
