Enzyme hydrolysis of jute fibrous wastes for reinforcement in biocomposites

  • Original language description

The objective of this chapter was to produce longer cellulose micro crystals of higher aspect ratio from waste jute fibers by using controlled and slower enzymatic hydrolysis for eight days. In the subsequent stage, 1, 5, and 10 wt% of obtained jute micro crystals were incorporated in PLA matrix to prepare composite films by solvent casting. The reinforcement of longer micro crystals was investigated from the improvements in mechanical properties base on tensile tests, dynamic machanical analysis, and differential scanning calorimentry.
