Novel Strategies for Flame Retardant High Loft Polyester Nonwovens
Original language description
The improvement of flame retardancy of high loft polyester nonwovens was studied based on two different strategies (1) role of synergistic study of carbon nanoparticles and FR finishing agent and (2) role inherent flame retardant fibers in blend. The sample coated with FR chemical agent alone showed maximum resistance for flame propagation, however at the cost of more smoke formation. When the samples were coated with carbon nanoparticles alone, the less amount of smoke formation was observed however appearance of distinct flame was found. The synergistically coated samples revealed intermediate behavior with respect to those samples coated with carbon nanoparticles alone and FR chemical agent alone. When polyester based inherent flame retardant fiberswere added in blend (i.e. Toray Esfron, Trevira CS, Huvis FR), the formation of flame was found absent or negligible.. However, the samples exhibited higher tendency of melt dripping without formation of char. When polyacrylonitrile based
