Dynamic heat flux measurement for advanced insulation materials

  • Original language description

This research elaborates determination of thermal characteristics e.g. thermal conductivity, resistance, convectionand clo value of advanced thermal insulation materials using standing thermal manikin and a newly designed instrument in a controlled climatic chamber. A multi-segment thermal manikin with the thermal comfort regulation mode and a newlydevised instrument was used to measure the forced convection through aerogel treated nonwoven fabrics and needle punched struto nonwoven fabric samples. With the newly designed instrument, the temperatures between the hotplate & fabric and on the surface of the fabric was measured keeping the temperature of climatic chamber constant. The convective heat transfer coefficient, conductivity and resistance was calculated accordingly and compared among the samples. In experiments with the thermal manikin, the temperatures and heat flux were measured for further calculation of resistance and clo values. The aerogel treated nonwoven fabrics showed higher resistance as compared to needle punched struto nonwoven fabrics. The results were analyzed and were statistically compared.
