3D Spacer Knitted Fabrics with Advanced Characteristics

  • Original language description

The purpose of this study is to investigate effect of material properties in 3D knitted fabrics onthermo physiological and functional characteristics. The main influence on the water vapour permeability ofknitted spacer fabrics is the kind of raw material. Also there is no correlation between air permeability andwater vapour permeability. It is found that both air permeability and thermal conductivity are closely related tothe fabric density. The shear behavior of 3D spacer knitted fabrics was investigated by using a picture framefixture. Three different methods were used to find the shear angle during loading rate of 10mm/min. All thetests were recorded by a CCD monochrome camera. It is also found that the characteristics of spacer fabricshow a very significantly effect on the air permeability, thermal conductivity and mechanical properties ofspacer fabric. Overall Moisture Management Capacity of the spacer fabrics depends on the tightness orstitch density of both the surface of fabrics, types of spacer yarn and raw material and thickness of the fabric. The Sound absorption coefficient (SAC) and thermal conductivity were measured using two microphoneimpedance tube and thermal conductivity analyzer (TCi) respectively. Moreover, tortuosity of the spacerfabrics was carefully calculated analytically. This study deeply discusses the influence of material parametersand characteristics on acoustic properties of 3D spacer knitted fabrics. The results show that the fabricsurface property, porosity, flow resistivity and tortuosity have significant effects on the sound absorbability aswell as thermal conductivity
