The chemistry, manufacture, and tensile behavior of polyamide fibers

  • Original language description

Polyamides generally are tough, strong, durable fibers useful in a wide range of textile applications. The distinguishing characteristics are high elasticity, tear and abrasion free, low humidity absorption capability, fast drying, no loss of solidity in a wet condition, crease free, and rot and seawater proof. The application areas range from underclothes to outer sporting garments. In this chapter, the properties and production process of various polyamide fibers have been discussed, while PA 6 and 66 have been discussed in detail. Other types of polyamides have also been mentioned briefly. The new approaches to develop specialized polyamides which can be used for specific purposes have been explored. Tensile strength and failure mechanisms have been discussed.
