Original language description
Growing environmental awareness throughout the world has triggered a paradigm shift toward designing materials compatible with the environment. Basalt is an environmentally friendly, natural, high-performance inorganic fiber, which is also known as green industrial material. It is colloquially known as the “21st-century nonpolluting green material.” Safe and abundant, basalt rock has long been known for its thermal properties, strength, and durability. Basalt fibers are more environmentally friendly as their recycling is much more efficient than glass fibers. Basalt fibers can be classified as a sustainable material because they are made of natural material and during their production no chemical additives such as solvents, pigments, or other hazardous materials are added. It is inexpensive; has excellent properties such as corrosion resistance, minimal moisture absorption, and the ability to withstand high temperatures; provides thermal insulation; and absorbs sound. It is also a cost-effective and high-strength material that has been widely used in road construction, buildings, and other applications that require reinforcement.
