Impact of material and construction on vertical wicking of knitted fabrics by means of Thermography and Image Analysis
Original language description
Liquid moisture transport of knitted structure has been studied for the management of human perspiration. This article deals with the liquid transport by vertical wicking of different knit structures by means of combination of thermography and image analysis systems. In scope of study, knitted fabric samples were prepared with three different materials like cotton, modal and coolmax. Three different knitted structures were developed as Single Jersey, Rib and PQ. All fabrics samples were prepared in same working environment and same structures were developed on same machine and machine settings. Two thermography systems recorded video of one minute in order to analyse the behavior of water movement vertically in fabric strips that were mounted on frame. This frame was dipped in water vessel. NIS Elements viewer was used for Image analysis of all the images captured at different intervals of time. According to measured features it was found that in case of Single Jersey, Rib and PQ knit structures, cotton showed more wicking behavior than modal and coolmax showed lowest wicking behavior. In case of knitted structure, PQ showed better wicking behavior than that of Single Jersey and Rib knitted structures.
