Exceptional Electromagnetic Shielding Properties of Lightweight and Porous Multifunctional Layers

  • Original language description

The preparation of functional fabrics with enhanced electrical properties requires suitable selection of surface modification and particulate systems as fillers. The best choice would be to use materials with low fiber diameters, good shape stability, and comfort-related properties. In this study, a composite nonwoven fabric “Milife” with surface covering by a particulate-based copper layer was investigated. Electromagnetic, electrical, and transport characteristics of the prepared materials were evaluated. The results showed extremely high total electromagnetic shielding effectiveness accompanied by very good air permeability and moderate bending modulus, indicating comfort behavior. The copper-coated Milife exhibited good potential to be used in protective textile clothing where a combination of electromagnetic interference shielding and antimicrobial effect is required.
