Transformations of the City-Goddess: Towards a Model of E. E. Cummings' City-space
Original language description
The paper illustrates the process and the methodological problems of working with E. E. Cummings' manuscripts and reports on preliminary findings of the research. In particular, it points out that the author's notes available in the Houghton Library support the original thesis put forward in Vernyik (2007). Namely that Cummings' New York City has a living, gendered body constantly in flux, which is structured around a few central localities that act as temples and portals between dimensions of time andspace.
