Carving versus traditional turn
Original language description
Remarkable changes in the ski construction of the skis appeared in the recent years. lt leads mainly to changes the trajectory and speed. We speak about carving skiing. The aim of this study is to compare the carving technique and the traditional technique of skiing. For the analysis of ground reaction forces we used a special measuring device which enables to measure forces and their torque moments in Cartesian coordinates system. The research took place with a group of six experienced skiers. Based onour evaluation and based on the literature we have found some differences and similarities between the carving and the traditional parallel turn. In the traditional turn during the steering phase is the outer ski more loaded than inner ski and in carving turn we find co-loading of both skis. The carving turn has relatively shorter steering phase. The initiation phase of both techniques is very similar.
