The paper describes the concept of quality of life as one of the key concepts of contemporary social and economic development. Its aim is to analyze recreation and nature conservation as vital parts of quality of life, which may take a form of indicatorsor a domain. Various methodological aspects of the position of recreation and nature conservation are discussed, especially in relation to the increasing number of facilities and services as prerequisites for an improvement of the quality of life, or bycontrast, as the satisfaction of an individual is emphasized. Research into recreation and conservation aspects of the quality of life is at its beginning.
