The United States on Mexican and Latino Screens: Border Crossing in La Zona and Sleep Dealer
Original language description
In this essay I intend to focus on how the Mexican-Spanish film La Zona and the United States Mexican film Sleep Dealer criticize contemporary American ideology and neoliberal economy and deconstruct traditional American Myths and symbols. I will analyzehow the films portray the border crossing experience from a distinctively Latino perspective. While in American-made cinema the border is frequently associated with romanticized images and the long-standing frontier image, in the Mexican-American cultural tradition the border symbolizes the aggressive expansion and domination of present day United States and conglomerate. capitalism. On the other hand, individuals living on the borderland often transgress the borders, gain crucial and life changing experiences from their journey, and so somehow profit from their borderland position.
