Development of pedagogy as a science is closely tied to several key issues during 19th and 20th century in the Czech Lands. This primarily involves formation of educational scientific discourse with a regard to general development of science during the 19th century in the Czech Lands, and also with a regard to the role of university centers in Cisleithania - especially Prague and Vienna, and its linkage with university centers in Germany or other countries. Secondly, it is a close link to standardization of pedagogy as a science with the overall socio-political situation in the Czech Lands in the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. In particular, it is necessary to mention that the Czech national emancipatory efforts were so strong in the field of culture and science that they naturally did not avoid pedagogical and educational discussions either.
