Identifying and supporting school-age children with motor competence deficits
Original language description
Motor competence refers to the development of fundamental motor skills corresponding to ontogenetic development. Clumsy, low-skilled children with low motor competence levels are unwilling to learn more complex motor tasks and avoid activities that expose them to a high likelihood of failure. They refuse to participate in exercise activities during childhood and later in adulthood, with consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. This pilot study aimed to estimate the level of motor competence in a sample of Czech school children, identify motor competence deficits and discuss possible causes.
