    Diagnostic validity of the short version of the German Bruininks-Oseretsky test of motor proficiency for developmental coordination disorder

    The Bruininks-Oseretzky Test of Motor Proficiency-Second Edition (BOT 2), a complete form, is considered a clinical objective tool for assessing motor proficiency with a focus on the search for motor difficulties of various etiologies. The short form of the BOT 2 is a derivative screening tool, which in the German version contains 19 selected items out of 53 test items. The aim of the study was to determine the diagnostic validity for DCD of the German BOT 2 short form. Thus, what is the ability of the BOT 2 short form to differentiate persons with and without DCD? The dataset comprised 637 neurotypical Czech children (297 girls, 46.6%) aged 6.00-11.00 years. Motor proficiency was measured using the complete form of the BOT 2, German version (Blank et al., 2014). Motor proficiency of Czech children is average (Total motor composite M = 46.37, SD = 10.50). 6.75 % of children have well-below average values and high risk of DCD prevalence. When assessing differences in means, BOT 2 short form provides statistically lower values for the Total motor composite than BOT 2 complete form (t(636) = 8.84, p %62 .001). It places significantly more children in the well-below average category. This is subsequently reflected in the low 49% predictive value of a positive test, which reflects the probability that a child has DCD when tested positively. Diagnostic validity, as expressed by the sensitivity of the BOT 2 short form, is moderate at 77 %. Specificity is high at 94 %, and accuracy is at 93 %. The BOT 2 short form is useful for detecting children with a high risk of DCD and motor difficulties. Its use in practice depends on the diagnostic strategy chosen. The proposed selection of BOT 2 short form test items as a screening tool represents a future challenge for revising the selection of test items. The revision may still modify the overall diagnostic validity.
