The commercial ultrafiltration membranes were modified with different types of polymeric nanofibres to gain additional functionality in water treatment applications. Biocide properties of the membrane surface were achieved by adding electrospun nanofibrestructures containing various forms of silver. Special additives change the viscosity and homogeneity of the spinning solution, and therefore limit the amount of silver particles that can be added. The optimal electrospinning conditions were determinedfor maximum silver content as well as minimal leaching from the nanofibres. The best results were obtained for high soluble Silver Nitrate and Silver Benzoate as silver nanoparticles precursors. Direct nanofibre deposition and thermal pressure laminationare two verified procedures to prepare composite ultrafiltration membranes with antibacterial properties.
