Environmental bioremediation using nanoparticles stabilized by natural hydrocolloids
Original language description
Natural hydrocolloids are polysaccharide gums that represent one of the most abundant industrial raw materials and have been the focus of demanding research due to their sustainability, biodegradability and biosafety. Natural gums are preferred over comparable synthetic materials due to their non-toxicity, low cost and availability. Safe and effective disposal of wastewater containing heavy metals, radionuclide and organic pesticides are always a challenging task for industrialists and environmentalists, as cost-effective treatment alternatives are not available. One approach to mitigate the environmental water pollution is to employ novel bioremediation technologies that are based on the principles of green and clean chemistry. The presented work wason the synthesis, characterization and bioremediation application of Ag, Au, Pt, Fe3O4 and CuO nanoparticles stabilized by using gum Kondagogu and Karaya hydrocolloids. Major pollutants such as toxic heavy metals (Cd2+, Cu2+, Fe2+, Se2+,
