Ecotoxicity assessment of zero-valent iron nanoparticles in Vibrio fischeri, Anabaena planktonica and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae
Original language description
Large-scale introduction of engineered nanomaterials into the environment requires their careful risk assessment. We used two different approaches to determine the ecotoxicity of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) particles, bare (i.e., without surface treatment) and passivated with oxidic shell. First, we monitored the inhibition of bioluminescence of bacterial strain Vibrio fischeri when exposed to nanoparticles. Second, we studied the effect of nanoparticles on photosynthesis in two cyanobacteria species Anabaena planktonica and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae.
