    Determination of the Composite Tube Mechanical Properties

    Substitute of the traditional maaterials with new plastic-based and composites materials is a trend in today´s automotive industry. Knowledge of the specific composite materia mechanical properties is necessary for CAD modelling and FEM calculations during the assembly design. These mechanical properties cqan be obtained by creating a composite structure in FEM software but it is highly advisable to verify the modelling results by measuring of the real composite material properties too (1,2). Identification and verificaation of the mechanical properties of the composite tube used in the hybrid tailgate of a car is described in this paper. This tube is composed from a polyurethane core on which a composite layer is made (Fig.1)
