Towards combined abiotic/biological decontamination technologies: Effect of various chemical oxidations on the soil microbial communities

  • Original language description

Decontamination techniques combining in-situ or ex-situ chemical oxidations followed by biodegradation are considered perspective for decrease of high levels of petroleum compounds in contaminated soils. The oxidation process can have significant microbicide effects on soil microorganisms, while these indigenous microorganisms often play important role in the biodegradation. In this study, we aimed on comparison of the effect of combination of various oxidation reagents, namely hydrogen peroxide and persulfate, and different activation aims on the levels of aliphatic hydrocarbon contamination and soil microbial communities in highly polluted soil gathered from petroleum refinery (initial C10-C40 concentration 62,20 ? 5,64 g/kg). Only variants with persulphate led to significant decrease of C10-C40 concentrations (55?13%) while other factors were insignificant. The highest removal efficiency of contaminant was measured in experiment combining (78?3%). On the other hand variants with per
