Assessing the Suitability of Carbon Nanostructures for the Colonization of Bacterial Populations

  • Original language description

This work presents the evaluation of physico-chemical properties of individual TiCN thin layers, which affect the adhesion of a biological materiál to the surface of observed samples (chemical composition, surface roughness and hydrophilicity).Body implants are common a part of the present medicíně. We could encounter their usage in orthopedics, traumatology, stomatology and other medical disciplines. Basic parameters for materiál used for crafting an implant are its biocompatibility and durability. TiCN thin films with a differing composition were deposited on the samples of surgical steel AISI 316 by cathodic are evaporation of pure Ti with various different gas ratios of N2 and C2H2. During the deposition processes the pressure in the vacuum chamber was 1.5 Pa, the deposition temperature was 400 °C, and the deposition time of the TiCN was 30 min. Another studied subjects were chemical stability, thiekness of the layer and the layer adhesion to the substráte, due to the possible use of those samples in the medical applications. Next part of the work is dedicated to the evaluation of the biological interaction between bacterial strain of Escherichia coli and studied surface layers. The importance was given to the observation of the willingness of the microorganisms to colonize individual samples.
