Cleanable Nanofibrous Membranes for Waste Water Purification

  • Original language description

Development of membranes in the treatment of waste water is signified by these trends: Decreased energy costs, increased chemical, surface and temperature stability and increased reliability of the process control. The development of membranes is an ongoing effort under the Institute for nanomaterials, advanced technologies and innovation since 2013. The goal of the developed membranes is the separation of particles and microorganisms the size of 0,1 - 10 µm, corresponding to Microfiltration (MF) according to the general definition of membrane processes. For the development of regenerable nanofibrous membranes it was necessary to develop a testing method and mainly laboratory and semi-operational simulation of the separation process. Several types of membranes were developed differentiating mainly over the parameters of the nanofibrous layer, type of binding agent and a base surface. Out of these membranes a sample NFM-2 with relatively large pores (0,5 – 0,8 µm) was chosen for operational testing. The sample was sufficient for cleaning the activated sludge.
