    Postulation of powdery mildew resistance genes in North American barley cultivars

    A set of 139 North American barley cultivars was tested using 12 pathotypes of powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei). Ninety five cultivars were susceptible to all of the 12 pathotypes. Among the 44 cultivars which shows some resistance to powdery mildew, 12 were heterogeneous being comprised of two components, one with and the other without resistance. Eight known powdery mildew resistance genes (Mla1, Mla7, Mla12, Mlat, Mlg, Mlk1, MlAb and MlMu2) were identified in the studied group. The most common gene was Mlg, which was present in five homogeneous and five heterogeneous cultivars. Resistance was not identified in 16 cultivars.

    Soubor 139 severoamerických odrůd ječmene byl testován 12 patotypy padlí travního (Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei). 95 odrůd bylo náchylných ke všem 12 patotypům. Ze 44 odrůd, které prokázaly určitou rezistenci k padlí travnímu, bylo 12 heterogenních, složených ze dvou komponentů, jednoho rezistentního a druhého bez rezistence. Ve sledované skupině bylo identifikováno 8 známých genů rezistence k padlí travnímu (Mla1, Mla7, Mla12, Mlat, Mlg, Mlk1, MlAb a MlMu2). Nejběžnější byl gen Mlg, který se vyskytoval v pěti homogenních a pěti heterogenních odrůdách. Rezistence nebyla zjištěna v 16 odrůdách.
