Desi sunt comercializate fibre avand proprietatile functionale inerente, totusi finisarea chimica ramane o tehnologie cu utilizare larga in imbracamintea de protectie, datorita eficientei costurilor si versatilitatii technologiei. In multe cazuri, cerintele functionale nu pot fi indeplinite numai de catre fibra si structura. Finisarea este utilizata pentru a imbunatati proprietatile de protecie ale structurii textile, ea fiindunul din factorii determinanti ai proprietatilor textilelor tehnice. Toate procesele de finisare au rolul de a creste atractivitatea si utilitatea produsului textil.
