ToFD (Time of Flight Diffraction) is non destructive ultrasound (US) testing method which differs from other ultrasonic based methods in that it relies on the detection of diffracted signals rather then reflected signals (pulse echo). The comprehensive coverage afforded by the wide beam used for ToFD inspections make it much less dependent on probe position and defect orientation. So it is possible to detect indications independently on their position and to determinate indication height and length. Oneof limitations consists in unreliable determination of indication?s position with standard configuration. But when special angle of the wedges is used or transverse scan is performed (or both) then better determination of the indication position is possible. ToFD inspection together with other non destructive testing methods was applied on testing of experimental dissimilar weld joints of rings (outer diameter of 974 mm, height of a welded area was 120 mm) fabricate from NiCrMoV and Nir
