Hole-drilling method with inverse layers removing

  • Original language description

Residual stress measurement is often performed using a direct hole-drilling method, when the strain-gauge rosette is drilled out from the object face. However, the knowledge of the residual stress near the back side wall of the investigated object is demanded in some cases. Such a surface is often inaccessible for any hole-drilling tool. If this back surface is accessible enough to glue the strain gauge rosette, it can be drilled from the front side and the residual stresses can be derived from the relieved strains at this rosette but with inverse sequence of layers removal. This contribution deals with the investigations of this method.
