Residual Stress Measurement in Railway Axles

The semi-destructive methods for investigation of residual stresses in railway axles according EN 13261 standards are discussed and compared: hole-drilling method, saw-cut method and grove-grinding method. The grove-grinding method is recommended for this task, having the highest sensitivity and is easy to use. The tool with stepping motor was designed and implemented for this method.
