Original language description
At the beginning of the 13th century the city Opava formed on the right bank of the river with same name. Although in the early days it filled defensive function in the foreland of Moravia, but in subsequent years it began to play a role as economic centre on the Moravian-Silesian border. The city was situated on the traditional north-south connector, Amber Road, which connected on Jeseník Road and continued to Olomouc, and also it was in proximity of east-west road, "Hohe Strasse", connecting Wroclaw and Krakow. The economic situation of the city was influenced by intervention of Czech, Polish king, Moravian Margrave and lord of Opava.
