A BRIEF ANALYSIS OF SELECTED FRENCH EXPRESSIONS IN CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN ENGLISH AND THEIR FREQUENCIES IN OTHER ENGLISH VARIANTS
Original language description
An analysis of selected multi-word French expressions in contemporary American English. Firstly, seven issues of the American magazine Vanity Fair are scanned for multi-word expressions falling into the "general" category, thus creating a mini corpus andproviding additional details (English definitions, time frame of English language entry, Czech equivalents and translations from French). Secondly, the expressions are queried in two large corpora of English: The Global Web-Based English Coprpus and TheCorpus of Contemporary American English. Thirdly, the data are interpreted and the findings are discussed in conclusion.
