Contemporary Superhero Comics: Feminist and Reader-Response Criticism of the New 52

  • Original language description

The paper analyzes the changes in stereotypical portrayal of gender identity in the New 52 DC Comics line. The main issues discussed are presentation of women, the audience of superhero comics and the influence of its female characters on the reader. The analysis focuses on the character of Wonder Woman and compares her depiction since her first appearance in 1941 to her new version, represented in the New 52 comics series published since 2011.
