Humorous Response Tokens in Talk Show Discourse
Original language description
The paper presents the results of a research in which conversation-analytic concepts as well as the concept of the humor act have been applied to study humorous response tokens in late night talk show discourse. Humor is an integral element of late night talk shows and it is one of the main responsibilities of the talk show host to ensure that humor occurs. In the course of the talk show interview, among the most frequent turn types produced by the host are questions and response tokens. The research presented in this paper has identified humorous response tokens as one of the possible discursive strategies of the talk show host when ensuring the presence of humor in the course of the talk show interview.
