The article examines an unofficial sub-genre of fantasy fiction known in the community of video game players (gamers) as lore books. It introduces the genre and compares it with general fantasy fiction in order to highlight the key differences that set the sub-genre aside. Furthermore, it differentiates between lore books, adaptations, and novelizations, explaining various approaches towards video game literature creation. The aim of the article is to introduce the genre of lore books and show its distinct features of world-building and narrative writing, proving its uniqueness and importance not only for the video gaming world, but also the literary field.
