In Franz Grillparzers Dramen "König Ottokars Glück und Ende" und "Ein Bruderzwist in Habsburg" treten zwei Herrscherfiguren auf, die prometheische Züge aufweisen, nämlich König Ottokar und Erzherzog Mathias. Die Studie untersucht den prometheischen Charakter dieser Figuren, indem sie sie mit der Figur des Prometheus in Beziehung setzt, die in den Texten von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe auftritt.
