The paper analyses the intermediation function of banks and their ability to transform deposits to loans. The efficiency is estimated by cost and profit function. The Czech banking sector appeared as the most efficient and the Slovak sector as the less efficient. Generally, higher efficiency scores were assigned to banks considering profit function.
