Interpretations of History and its Influence on the Perception of the National and European Identities
Original language description
This paper deals with impacts of globalisation and its consequences on perceptions of European and national identity. The processes of globalization and European integration have raised unsettling questions: What characterizes Europeanness? What relationship is there to be between European and national identities? The article focuses on searching of European identity and analyses its relation with the national consciousness. The paper also confronts the perception of national identity using the exampleof the Czech nation and its interest in the past and at the present. Changes of national identity also influence interpretations of the national past. It is the purpose of the paper to give the idea of what role different interpretations of history havebeen playing in determination of national interests throughout particular periods.
