Income Inequality and Economic Growth
Original language description
Every human society which is formed in a framework of the specific economic structure is characterised by different poverty rate, social cohesion and income inequality. The aim of this paper is to determine the effect, which has income inequality on economic growth in developed countries. The selected representative sample consists of 34 OECD member countries in the period 2000-2012. The empirical analysis is based on the neoclassical growth model. As the independent variable approximating the effect ofincome inequality is used the Gini coefficient, one of the best known and used measures of income inequality, prepared in accordance with OECD methodology . Significant results of the dynamic panel model confirm the hypotesis that the impact of income inequality on economic growth is negative.
