Web Scraping and Its Use for Teaching in Course Information Systems in Tourism

  • Original language description

This paper discusses the use of web scraping in the Information Systems in Tourism course, highlighting its potential to enhance students’ understanding of data management and analysis in the tourism industry. It also explores its application in the hotel industry and reputation management, highlighting the use of tools such as for example Apify, Browse.AI or Outscraper for data extraction and analysis that is preparing students for future careers in the tourism and hospitality sectors. The use of web scraping tools for educational purposes related to hotel industry analysis will also be discussed in this paper. By adding web scraping into the curriculum, students can acquire hands-on experience collecting and analysing real-world data, preparing them for future careers in tourism. This will provide students a hands-on experience understanding how data may be collected and used for decision-making in the tourism business.
