12th Pan-European Conference on International Relations
Original language description
The Institute of International Relations Prague co-organized the 2018 edition of Europe’s largest and most prestigious conference for scholars of international studies: The European International Studies Association (EISA) 12th Pan-European Conference on International Relations. The conference was organised together with EISA, the Central and East European International Studies Association (CEEISA) and the University of Economics, Prague. The theme of the conference was ‘A New Hope: Back to the Future of International Relations’ and it was held at the University of Economics, Prague, under the auspices of rector of UEP prof. Ing. Hana Machková, CSc. from the 11th until 15th of September 2018. IIR director Ondrej Ditrych and Stepanka Zemanova (speaking for VSE) addressed the opening plenary session. The conference featured renowned scholars of Politics and International Relations from across Europe and around the world, including Ted Hopf, Ann Towns, Adam Morton, Pinar Bilgin, Stefano Guzzini, Marieke de Goede, Jeff Colgan, Anna Leander, Daniel Nexon and Beate Jahn. The IIR’s considerable contribution to the event ranged from its Senior Researcher, Benjamin Tallis, serving as local organiser of the event as well as being a governing board member of EISA, to the hosting of the ‘Early-Career Researchers’ Workshops’ (an integral part of the event) at the IIR on 11th September. IIR researchers featured prominently on the conference programme, having had multiple contributions (as presenters, discussants, roundtable participants) accepted at the conference. The event was warmly received by participants and raised the profile of the IIR and VSE, showing their capacity to work together to boost the profile and reputation of Czech IR scholarship, as well as of the institutions themselves.
