This closed-door event with professor Junya Nishino (Keio University) organized by Rudolf Fürst provided an opportunity to discuss the issues surrounding the Korean peninsula. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in the US- DPRK Joint Statement on June 12 in Singapore. But North Korea has not yet stopped producing nuclear materials or nuclear warheads, nor has it disposed of nuclear materials or nuclear warheads produced in the past. Above all, it is necessary to immediately take actions for denuclearization against North Korea's nuclear developments past and present. Otherwise, it would be difficult to judge that the Japanese security environment has improved. The event assessed current security environment on the Korean peninsula and Japan’s efforts in dealing with North Korea, mainly focusing on its security and diplomatic cooperation with the US and South Korea.
