The Evolution of International Drug Control under the United Nations

  • Original language description

The chapter traces the development of the international drug control regime under the auspices of the United Nations. It analyzes key relevant conventions, presents the institutional framework of the regime and offers a critical reading of this regime focused primarily on the effects of the emergence of the biopolitical field of visibility in this regime and more generally its understanding as a manifestation of the global biopolitical mode of production. At the end of the chapter, the authors focus on the current dynamics and controversies that manifest themselves in the regime of drug control.
