  • Original language description

The High-Level International Religious Freedom or Belief Alliance Conference took place on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the International Religious Freedom or Belief Alliance (IRFBA – the Article 18 Alliance). The conference brought together high-level representatives from governments, civil society, academia, faith communities, and the technology sector. The conference addressed the role of Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) in a period marked by deepening global polarization, security crises, societal transformation, and emerging challenges linked to new technologies and climate change. Participants emphasized FoRB as both a fundamental human right and a key source of resilience, inclusiveness, and social cohesion for individuals and societies facing uncertainty and conflict. The program was structured around several thematic pillars, including FoRB as a source of resilience, religious engagement, interfaith and intercultural dialogue, artificial intelligence and ethics, climate change, genocide prevention, and regional perspectives focusing on Eurasia and the Middle East. Discussions highlighted how respect for religious freedom can strengthen democratic values, support peacebuilding, and contribute to post-conflict recovery in diverse societal contexts. The conference was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and under the auspices of the President of the Czech Republic with the support of IRF Secretariat, Templeton Religion Trust, BYU Law, LYNC, Renovabis and Anna Lindh Foundation.
