Experimental and numerical study on pressure losses and pressure fluctuations in a valve assembly with three control valves in one chamber
Original language description
doi.org/10.29008/ETC2025-130 This paper presents a study of the flow field in an up-to-date model of a modern high-pressure valve assembly used for nozzle-governing turbines with outputs lower than 50 MW. This assembly consists of one stop valve and three control valves connected by the so-called lift bar. The study aims to evaluate and compare pressure losses and flow instabilities in each control valve. Numerical simulations have been carried out in the Doosan Skoda Power company using the Ansys CFX software tool to complement the results. Measurements have been carried out in the Aerodynamic laboratory of the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where an aerodynamic tunnel is installed. . The measurement results are compared with the numerical results in the form of pressure loss prediction. The measured pressure fluctuations are utilized to define a border, in terms of operating conditions, where the flow field starts to be unstable. Therefore, the areas of safety and dangerous operational reliability can be predicted.
