    A paper is aimed at TEM observation of microstructure of the steel 18Cr18Mn0.5N at different degree of compression or tensile strain at room temperature. Mechanisms of strengthening are discussed and are compared with results of mechanical tests. Slip/slip, slip/twin, twin/twin and slip/grain boundary interactions are described. Phase composition is discussed and verified using electron diffraction.
