Original language description
Engineering methods come into the design area from different practical and theoretical sources. It has been usually supposed that their efficiency is mostly restricted by their theoretical and terminological inconsistency. However, it has been found thatthe key problem relates to the three characteristic levels of their use that could be structured very roughly as intuitive, methodical-empirical and flexible systematic. The paper presents the principles of the effective enhancement of both traditionaland the modern engineering methods at the third level based on knowledge from the Theory of Technical Systems. Their applications have proved the effectiveness of the mentioned approaches both in engineering design education, practice and research.
